The history on these is very interesting. During the gold rush end of day the foreman couldn't always afford to pay each individual until the previous and sometimes current day was processed. The temporary solution was to stamp a fraction, much like change today. As such the gold $1.00 dollars are quite a bit more common. The fractions were relatively easy to lose and not passed around as much. A very cool and interesting part of history.
Found in a Victorian era desk.
